We had missed him in 2021 on the Champs-Elysées in Paris, the first stage of a tour that would later take him to a number of French (Bordeaux, Caen) and European cities, and we finally caught up with him in Brussels, in the Parc Royal, the final stage of a joyful and offbeat circuit.
Born in 1983, in the Belgian daily newspaper Le Soir, in the form of a three-box strip, the Cat, this wacky, chubby feline who gives his opinion on everything and nothing through puns, was an immediate success. Nearly 40 years on, his creator, the Belgian cartoonist and humourist Philippe Geluck, has devised this travelling exhibition with the aim of financing the opening of a Museum of Le Cat and Cartoon in Brussels at the end of 2024. The visit is free, but the 22 monumental bronze statues, measuring up to 2m80 and weighing between 800 and 1200 kg each, are for sale and most have already found buyers.
Take a look at 10 of these works in the slideshow, and if you want to see the tomcat for real, you have until 10 September to visit the very pretty Parc Royal in Brussels!
